Fell Foot from the skies!

If you were at Fell Foot last week you might have been snapped from the skies by a mini-helicopter-mounted camera! It was a beautiful day and Stephen Ashworth ensured that we made the most of it.

We’ll be using the pictures for the next stage of planning for the project. In particular, the photos help to illustrate how the park’s appearance has changed with the removal of the rhododendron ponticum.  DEFRA ordered the removal of most of the rhododendron bushes because of the infection and spread of phytophthora ramorum. This has been a huge but necessary undertaking, and the process is on-going.

As part of the project planning, we need to take into account the presence of this fungi and be careful about which plants we choose to replace the rhododendrons, whilst still remaining true to the character of the park.  In the meantime, the rangers have carefully grass-seeded the empty ground, and the grass is already growing fast.
